Platt Electric | Rexel USA

Sometimes change is hard. How do you modernize without upsetting your life-long customers?

With a move to more online services, the company wanted a design that would allow for an entirely self-service experience on a retail level and B2B. This included multiple conditions for purchases, such as a line of credit system. Customers can create personal and business accounts with multiple users, create reoccurring orders, pick up or deliver to various locations, and distribute products to numerous projects.

For the development of our new eCommerce store at Platt Electric, I was tasked with the quick visualization of our site from mobile to desktop. I used Balsamiq to rapidly prototype dozens of layouts. I created a system of modules that could be used for a variety of situations and would keep the user experience consistent across both the mobile and desktop flows.

Simplify & Find

Much of our work was centered around simplifying our users experience. The problem? Many users were used to finding things were they were, despite the confusing interface. Through a series of user interviews and prototype test, we were able to determine the products most searched for and create a system for finding items and information quickly and easily.

Brand  Changes

With the corporate merger of Platt and Rexel USA, new branding was required for our site. Working with our existing design system and the elements from Rexel, we scoped out a new system and updated all components, all while simplifying and cleaning up the experience.

Modularization

Problem: We have weekly sales and other specials that require quick swapping of what is being featured on the home page.

Solution: Through rapid prototyping, I designed a series of small components for both mobile and desktop experience that would allow for variety of products services to be easily features and swapped out from various sections of the page. These components could be reused and moved to various places around the website, creating visual consistency and helping to set up user expectations.
